What a fun show we have for you this week!
As St. Patrick’s Day nears, we at US99.5 and Weekend Journal are getting ready for all the festivities.
One of our favorite events that we get involved with is put on by the wonderful folks at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls. Father Scott Donahue, President and CEO of Mercy Home, checks in with us to tell us all about this year’s March for Kids campaign! (You might remember it as Shamrocks for Kids.)
Watch for the Mercy Home float in the Chicagoland St. Patrick’s Day parades, and remember to make a donation so you can wear your shamrock pin proudly! They will be all over, including:
- Tinley Park Irish Parade- Sunday, March 9th, 1:00 PM
- Chicago’s Downtown St. Patrick’s Day Parade- Saturday, March 15th, noon
- Northwest Side St. Patrick’s Day Parade- Sunday, March 16th, 11:00 AM
- South Side Irish Parade- Sunday, March 16th, noon
Mercy Home has been helping Chicago’s kids in crisis for 127 years. For information about this amazing organization and to learn how you can help, visit MercyHome.org.
Later in the show, this year’s Queen of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Lauren Catinella checks in with all the details of the downtown parade, the dying of the Chicago River, and more.
Plus, we have a little fun with her: potatoes or corned beef & cabbage? Guinness or Bailey’s? Best spots in Ireland? Listen to our conversation below!
Saturday, March 15th, 10:00 AM: The Chicago River gets dyed green. (Did you know the dye starts out as orange? Queen Lauren gives us the scoop!) Get a good view of this Chicago tradition at the corner of Michigan Ave. & Wacker Dr.
Saturday, March 15th, 12:00 noon: The parade kicks off at Balbo & Columbus, heading north on Columbus. Get a good view by Buckingham Fountain, and look for Queen Lauren! She’ll be wearing a green cape– can’t miss her.
And lastly, we’re getting all you brides ready for your big day! I know it’s still winter, but it’s never too early to find your perfect dress– trust me; it’s the most important detail of the whole day. And I have the PERFECT opportunity for you to find your wedding gown, and support a really good cause at the same time.
Mya Widmyer, show manager of Brides Against Breast Cancer, tells us all about this organization that raises money to support people living with cancer to help them with support services. They do this largely through their nationwide tour of gowns, the proceeds of which fund programs and services that are free to cancer patients and their families.
The tour is making two stops in Chicagoland this year. The first will be at Northbrook’s Renaissance Chicago North Shore Hotel on March 15th and 16th, and the second stop will be at Lombard’s Jasmine Galleria on June 21st and 22nd.
Mya tells us about these events and how rewarding it is to work for such an amazing organization.
