FIRST GUEST: Barbara Kramer-Dibble, Long Grove’s Business and Community Partners

For some, Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer. For me, Long Grove’s Chocolate Fest does! And this year, they’ve extended their hours, so there will be even more chocolate to enjoy!

Experience three days of chocolate, live music, food, and fun on the charming streets of the historic district of Long Grove, which was recently named one of Chicago’s best public spaces by the Metropolitan Planning Council.

Check out some great local bands like the fun ’80s cover band Sixteen Candles on Saturday, May 16th, and the Beatles cover band American English on Sunday, May 17th.

Bring the dog, and bring the kids for tug-o-war, 3-legged races, face painting, and rides. And make sure to check out all the unique shops where you’ll be sure to find a truly original one-of-a-kind gift or souvenir.

With chocolate-themed cocktails, a chocolate chip cookie eating contest, local restaurants, shops, and breweries, and great live music, what’s not to love? And the best part: tickets are only $5.00! (Or you can buy a 3-day pass for just $10.00.) Kids 12 and under– and doggies– are free.

Check out the full schedule of events and get your tickets at visitlonggrove.com. You’ll be supporting some great small businesses, and you’ll have a marvelous weekend in the process.

SECOND GUEST: Amanda Bickell, co-founder of the Bryan and Amanda Bickell Foundation, creating awareness for the misunderstood dogs knowns as “pit bulls” and working with them to assist abused children

#29 of the Blackhawks Bryan Bickell and his wife started the Bickell Foundation a few years ago to create awareness about the misunderstood doggies labeled “pit bulls.” Through their Bick’s Pits program, they find a special dog that needs a home every month.

Amanda tells us about Bick’s “Pit” for May, Stevie!

I'm cute, lovable, 2 1/2 year old Stevie! And I need a home! Interested in adopting me? Learn how at www.bickellfoundation.org

This handsome 90-pound 2 1/2 year old boy was found on the streets of Gary, Indiana in the cold February of 2014. After being fostered and graduating at the top of his Canine K9 Academy class, he’s ready for a home!

He’s smart, cuddly, potty-trained, loves other big doggies, and can’t wait to impress you for treats.

See more pictures of Stevie and read his letter to potential adopters here.

Can’t adopt but still want to help? Head to bickellfoundation.org to learn about other ways to get involved, including drinking Coffee for a Cause.

THIRD GUEST: Khit Masoud, Team Imerman Angels Recruiter

Imerman Angels is a one-on-one cancer support charity.

On Sunday, May 24th, they’re hosting a charity event at Room Seven, 7 West Division in the Gold Coast, to raise funds for their organization.

Khit tells us what to expect at the event, and about the most rewarding experiences she’s had being a part of Team Imerman Angels.

Get more info at imermanangels.org.

Weekend Journal airs Sunday mornings at 6:30 on US99.5 and 6:00 on US99.5 HD2 The Wolf.
