FIRST GUEST: Dr. Felicia Stoler, registered dietician, exercise physiologist, and author of Living Skinny in Fat Genes: The Healthy Way to Lose Weight and Feel Great

Feeling good starts with the food we eat. But we don’t always reach for the healthiest snacks when we’re in a pinch. The best way to prevent unhealthy eating and snacking is by knowing the best kinds of foods to buy when you’re filling up your grocery cart.

Dr. Felicia Stoler helps settle the score when it comes to our questions.

Margarine or butter? We hear pro’s and con’s for each all the time, but what’s really the best option? Dr. Stoler says unless you’re a vegan who doesn’t consume any animal products, choose butter. In fact, pick the “real stuff” as often as possible when it comes to food. Even when it comes to eggs vs. egg whites. Often, opting for egg whites means choosing artificial ingredients. Stick with the real stuff and watch your portions.

She also answers our questions about which frozen foods to stay away from, and which are okay to have. And which oils are best to cook with? She says it’s time to start using palm fruit oil. Why is grass-fed protein better than corn-fed? And how can we know we’re getting the freshest produce possible?
